2024 PRIME 4.0 golf ball

I’ve been playing Snell golf balls for the past nine years and have absolutely no complaints. One of the things I’ve always loved is that everyone knows it’s my ball—there’s rarely any confusion since most golfers are playing one of the major brands.

Performance-wise, I get the same distance, if not more, compared to the bigger-name balls. Early on, Snell did have some issues with the covers scuffing, but they’ve completely addressed that. With the four-layer technology they’re offering now, I honestly don’t see any reason to spend nearly twice as much for a comparable ball from one of the major brands.

I’m currently a 5 handicap and Snell continues to give me the performance, feel, and consistency I’m looking for. I truly enjoy the product and would highly recommend giving them a try.

Let's be clear: nobody should be picking their golf ball solely based on the colorway. I actually prefer the Snell PR3, but when the Prime 4.0 went on closeout sale for $10 cheaper than the PR3s, pulling the trigger on them was a no-brainer.

Performance-wise, the Prime 4.0 is an absolute machine. Because it features a 4-piece construction wrapped in their XV3 Urethane cover, it hits a much harder compression range (85-90) compared to the softer profile of the PR3. If you have the swing speed to properly compress it, it rewards you with an incredibly fast core that generates massive, low-spin distance off the driver and heavy, piercing flights with your long irons. It definitely has a firmer click off the putter and wedges, but the green-side check and overall durability are top-tier.

As a quick side note on the visual profile: both boxes officially say "Yellow," but they look entirely different on the course. The Prime 4.0 is a traditional, classic optic yellow. Meanwhile, the PR3 yellow leans heavily into a loud, bright Kawasaki Green territory.

At the end of the day, I still prefer the softer feel and responsive launch of the PR3 for my everyday game. But if you want a premium, high-compression tour ball that delivers heavy performance—especially when you can snag it on a massive discount—the Prime 4.0 is a steal.
